This is an exposed track and temperatures can drop quickly, even in mid-summer. Please take warm and windproof clothing. This track is not recommended during winter due to snow and ice.

  • Start: Mt Aspiring Road, Roys Peak Car Park
  • Time: 5 – 6 hours return
  • Distance: 11 km
  • Grade: Good level of fitness required as the track is steep.

Note 1: Track closed for lambing from 1 October to 10 November. Please check with Department of Conservation’s Wanaka office on the track status.
Note 2: There is no water available on the track, please ensure you have sufficient supplies as it can be very hot in summer.
Note 3: During peak summer season the car park can be very busy, so please consider alternative transport to the start of the track. Shuttles and taxis are available, or consider riding a bike or walking along the Waterfall Creek track to the start.
