The NZ Mountain Film & Book Festival returns to Wānaka from 19–23 June 2026, celebrating its 24th year of bringing world-class adventure storytelling to the Southern Alps. This five-day festival showcases an inspiring programme of award-winning international and New Zealand films, author talks, guest speakers, book launches and panel discussions exploring mountains, exploration, environmental issues and life in the outdoors.
The festival attracts filmmakers, writers, adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts from around New Zealand and around the world. The programme highlights the finalists and winners from the festival’s international film and book competitions and features powerful stories of climbing, skiing, trail running, kayaking, conservation and human endurance in some of the planet’s most spectacular landscapes.
Alongside the screenings and book events, the festival also supports the next generation of storytellers through initiatives such as the Adventure Film School, offering aspiring filmmakers the chance to develop their skills and learn from industry professionals. Whether you’re passionate about the outdoors, love powerful storytelling, or simply want to experience extraordinary adventures from the comfort of a theatre seat, the NZ Mountain Film & Book Festival offers a unique and inspiring cultural event in the heart of the Southern Lakes.
