With nature the muse, mountains the stage, At the World’s Edge Festival launches this spring in Wānaka. Now in its fifth year, AWE 2025 dives into the connection between music and nature, with the Southern Alps as its stunning backdrop.
This year’s line-up brings together some of Aotearoa’s most acclaimed chamber musicians including legendary pianist Michael Houstoun, cellist James Bush, and Composer in Residence John Psathas, with international artists such as UK violinist Anthony Marwood and US violist Yura Lee.
John Psathas is no stranger to spectacular performance settings. This spring, the celebrated composer will add Wānaka’s Rippon Hall to a list that already spans seven continents, from the Athens Olympic Games to Antarctica.
As Composer in Residence for this year’s At the World’s Edge Festival, Psathas will be part of the full programme which unfolds across Wānaka, Queenstown, Cromwell, and Bannockburn. The Rippon Hall will host the world premiere of his new two-cello string quintet, one of two works commissioned for AWE 2025.
Also joining the festival is Wānaka freeskier and Olympian Jossi Wells, who will take part in a free AWE+ talk to explore the links between creativity, performance, and the natural world.
Take your seats for a festival like no other.
