Set against the breathtaking backdrop of New Zealand’s Southern Alps and the Te Wāhipounamu World Heritage Area, it’s one of the country’s largest triathlon festivals, featuring events for all ages and abilities with over 2,000 participants.
Athletes from around the world take on the legendary middle-distance course — a 1.9 km swim in crystal-clear waters, a 90 km bike alongside alpine lakes, and a 21.1 km run through Wānaka’s stunning landscape.
The festival also includes the Preschool, Junior, and Intermediate Challenges for budding triathletes aged two to fifteen, along with the Adaptive and Secondary Schools Challenges, creating a true celebration of sport and community.
The week culminates on Saturday 21 February 2026 with the flagship Challenge Wānaka Half, featuring both the middle-distance triathlon and Aquabike races for individuals and teams.
In this special 20th anniversary edition, the Challenge Wānaka Half is not only your chance to claim a National Title, but also a qualifying event to wear the silver fern at the 2026 World Championships.
Plus, by finishing any Tri NZ Suzuki Series event, you’ll go in the draw to win a Suzuki car!
Thousands of spectators line the course and finish chute, cheering on these inspirational athletes as they take part in one of the most spectacular triathlons on the planet.
